Steam Room Bathroom

Until you spend time in a steam room you cannot understand how relaxing it can be.  There may be the slight discomfort of getting very hot but as it is generally considered that 20 minutes is the maximum time to stay in there this can be dealt with.  If you are going to have a steam room bathroom there are a number of ways you can achieve this.  Installing one yourself is not out of the question but there will be plenty of choices if you decide to bring in a professional.

Different Types of Steam Room Bathrooms

There can be a separate steam room that is not connected to the shower or bath.  This will be a cubicle that is either freestanding or attached to the wall and will just work as a steam room.  Having this type may be dependent upon you having a large bathroom and if you do not there are other options:

  • Steam Room/Shower- This is when the shower and steam room are in the same cubicle.  It will have to be a bigger cubicle than you would have for a shower alone but will leave you with much more free room than if you have both together.  They can be in a combined cubicle or the shower can be on one side with the steam room on the other.

  • Although most people choose to put their steam room in the bathroom it is possible to have them everywhere in the house or even in a cabin outside.  If it is going to be outside the house there will be the need to make sure that the cabin is suitable as there is no point having a totally sealed and properly constructed steam room if the surroundings are unsuitable.  There are portable steam rooms but as these are plugged in it will be unlikely that you will be able to use them in the bathroom.  Very few bathrooms have electricity for anything other than lights and a portable steam room needs to be plugged in.

Issues with Steam room Bathrooms

If you have a steam room bathroom it can cause problems if there are a number of members of the family.  Many families have arguments about the amount of time certain members spend in the bathroom just bathing so if there is a steam room there as well some members may have to be prised out.

It should not be any harder to keep a steam room bathroom clean than it would an ordinary bathroom.  The same cleaners can be used and as they are not massive it should not take a lot of time.  Keeping it clean will be important as there is a lot more water likely to settle in a steam room than there would be in a shower.  Bacteria can develop and illness can be passed around from member to member.  If you get it right you can make your steam room bathroom the most relaxing room in the house.
